Board of Education

The board's main responsibilities are to:

• Establish district policies;
• Develop an annual budget for public consideration;
• Review and act on the superintendent's recommendations on personnel matters and contracts;
• Review courses of study and textbooks; and
• Serve as a communication link between residents and the superintendent.
• Other duties include defining the district's philosophy, setting goals to achieve academic objectives and planning for future needs.

The district is committed to the belief that an effective school program can only be accomplished by nurturing a partnership between the schools and the community.

Decisions made by your elected school board affect the education of our children and, therefore, the well-being of this community. Your school board can best represent its constituents when members of the community take the time to observe the board in action, express their opinions, ask questions and communicate their wishes in the public setting. Your continued interest and support will guarantee the excellence of our schools.

The City School District of ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ Board of Education welcomes input from district residents, parents, students and other stakeholders. Community involvement at board meetings is encouraged so that we can better understand your views.

The City School District of ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ Board of Education is made up of seven ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ citizens. Board members are elected to four-year terms and receive no salary or other compensation. The school board election is typically held on the third Tuesday of May along with the school budget vote.

Requirements to be eligible to run for the board include that a candidate must be a U.S. citizen and a qualified voter who has lived in the school district for at least a year prior to the election, and at least 18 years old. Family members living with current board members, and current district employees are not eligible.

Prospective candidates must submit nominating petitions to the district clerk. Petitions must include signatures from at least 100 qualified voters who reside in the district. The district clerk is located at 1 Academy Park, ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ NY 12207. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
